John Andrew Grotting, M.D.
Orthopedic Surgeon | Sports Medicine Specialist
Dr. Grotting is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at University of Massachusetts where he served as chief resident. Following his residency, he went on to train at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles. During his time there, he helped take care of several professional and collegiate teams, including the Rams, Dodgers, Kings, Ducks, and USC Trojans.
Dr. Grotting’s research interests include ligamentous injuries to the knee and novel techniques for their reconstruction. He has an interest in surfing injuries as well as their prevention.
Dr. Grotting spent a year working at Tenwek, a mission hospital in rural Kenya, treating orthopedic injuries and serving as faculty for the orthopedic surgery residency program.
He is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art orthopedic care for all ages and levels of activity. His focus is on arthroscopic surgery, fracture care, joint replacement, nerve decompressions as well as general orthopedics. Most importantly, he is committed to treating his patients like family.
Dr. Grotting grew up in San Diego and graduated from The Bishops School in La Jolla. Prior to medical school, he worked as a professional ski patroller in Lake Tahoe. He is a skier, a mountain biker, and a runner, but his true passion is surfing. He enjoys spending time with his wife, an ophthalmologist, and his son.
